The “Value” of Grace

Hey, Grace’rs,

George Sperry and his family have been involved at Grace for the last couple of years…and you have profoundly impacted their lives.

George is one of our newest Grace Board members and he’s written the following brief letter to you on behalf of his family and the board.

Tim

A seminar leader held a $20 bill in the air and asked who in the audience would like to have it. Of course, all hands went in the air. He then crumpled it up, threw it on the floor, stomped on it, and ground it in the carpet. He picked it up and again asked who in the audience would like to have it. Again, all hands went in the air. The moral of the story: no matter how beat down you may feel, you still have worth. You still have value.

As people of value, we invest in what we value. As people who have been graced, God invites us to invest in that which brings value to others—hope, grace, forgiveness, and life.

George Müller was a Christian evangelist and orphanage director in England during the 1800’s. It is estimated that his orphanages cared for over 10,000 orphans during his lifetime. He also established 117 schools which offered Christian education to over 120,000 children. Müller, captured by the grace of God, placed a high value on the orphans of his day and changed their lives. God took one man with a heart of compassion and used him to touch the world in ways that still make a difference today.

Our family has been a recipient of what Grace values. Grace has been a blessing by providing our daughters with the opportunity to become involved with a dynamic youth group, and to learn what it means to be women of faith through our confirmation/rite of passage program: Following Jesus: A Journey of Wisdom for Girls (we also offer one for boys—Following Jesus: A Heroic Quest for Boys). We’ve been empowered and inspired through dynamic worship experiences. In addition, Grace has offered opportunities for our family to serve others world-wide through programs like Feed My Starving Children as well as individual learning series and guest speakers to enhance my relationship with Christ in becoming a better disciple.

As a member of the mission of Grace and as a new board member, I invite you, if you haven’t started yet, to join with our family in valuing Grace and it’s value to you, your family, and our world, by giving an extra $5 per week between now and the end of September. The world is counting on us. And a big thanks to you Grace’rs who have been enthusiastically supporting the mission of Grace throughout the summer.

On behalf of my family, thanks for building and supporting this congregation before we came so that it would be here for us. Let’s continue to be generous people to ensure we’re here for future families.

I’m honored to join you in following Jesus on the bold, reckless adventure of bringing grace to the world.
